Sue Smith MA, LMFT

Hi! I’m Sue Smith

I help Emerging Adults 18-30 who experience Anxiety or Depression or other mental health challenges that are so common in young adults as they move into adulthood.
I specialize in Emerging Adults with disabilities in addition to mental health issues.

I’ve worked with hundreds of Emerging Adults like you grappling
with just these same questions in my former career as a College Counselor.
I understand that the transition to adulthood can be a complicated bumpy road.
A lot of what you do is trial and error until you find out what works for you.
Because face it, if you have a mental health disorder or disability
you likely don’t have anyone to show you the ropes.
(It helps to talk to someone who has been where you are.)
There’s so much trial and error and through individual counseling,
I can help you explore the options and make the decisions a little less stressful
with less trial and definitely less error!

I remember having the same questions you may be having
and other questions as an emerging adult with a disability
and the pressure of trying to make the RIGHT decision.
It can be overwhelming!
That’s one of the main reasons I became a therapist,
to help others avoid some of the trial and error
and find what works for them sooner, rather than later.

Fortunately, there are answers and resources and at Emerging Adult Counseling.
Our job is to help you find them.
I will help with these tough situations
and help you find the answers and resources
that will move you from where you are now to where you want to go.

I can also help you to look at how you do things now
and how you think about things to see if there are alternatives
that may make you more productive in moving towards your goals.

I can connect you to resources at Emerging Adult Counseling
and in the community to help you build a support team
to help you get where you want to go.

Through our Support Groups focused on specific goals, such as starting college,
starting a career, or creating satisfying relationships
we can learn from each other what works and avoid those
things that don’t.

Together we will form a plan to reduce or eliminate the barriers to reaching your goals. We will work this plan until you feel that you are satisfied with where you have come, or are ready to work on it by yourself. I work with you collaboratively so that you have the best chance for the best outcome.
